“Wet Stencil” Technique

March 14, 2011 Leave a Comment

Hi Everyone!  I really LOVE to demonstrate unique and fun techniques to my wonderful friends at our stamp groups!  For this month’s club project I featured Stampin’ Up!’s Decor Elements Stencil “Kind Thoughts Brocade“. I’ve never shown our stencils before and they’re so much fun and versatile! The ladies in my stamp groups loved it!  Before I show you the technique and card we made, here are some other cards using the stencil:

For this card I simply sponged Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip Classic Inks on top of my stencil with a sponge.  The sentiment is from the “BLISS” Sale-a-Bration set that you can earn for FREE until March 31, 2011  This card took under 5 minutes to make!

With Saint Paddy’s day coming up, I thought I’d make a card in greens.  I took my Versamark ink pad directly onto the stencil, pouncing to get a good coverage.  Sprinkle on some gold embossing powder, zap it with your heat tool and voila! The “Good Luck” and “Clover” is from the “SO HAPPY” Sale-a-Bration stamp set.  This is a super great stamp set (and it’s FREE with a $60 order!).

I love this card and it was mega fast to make! I just sponged over the stencil with my Stampin’ Pastel chalks!  Notice the fun border? That was created with the new ‘Framed Tulips‘ Embossing Folder, currently in our Occasions mini. All of my March & April workshops feature new products from this mini so book your workshop today so you don’t miss out!

Instead of sponging with my chalks, for this card I sponged with my classic ink pads! Then I covered the piece with Versamark ink and embossed with Iridescent Ice!  The ‘Thanks’ sentiment is from one of my most used stamp sets “Thank You Kindly” – also FREE during the Sale-a-Bration promotion!

Ok – time for our technique.  This is thecard we made at our Stamp Clubs this month:

Isn’t it pretty? Everyone LOVED it and it speaks of “SPRING!”  Here’s how you make the lovely background:
Mist the stencil with water.  Then rub on some color using the Water Color Wonder Crayons.  Then layer your card over top (I used Whisper White) and burnish with your fingertips.  When you peel off your card stock this is what you’ll get:
TA DA! Gorgeous! And every time it will be different!
I will cut this image to use on my cards and scrapbook pages.
Here’s another couple of cards I made, using the ‘Wet Stencil’ technique:
I think this card is my favorite! I demonstrated how to make the roses at our last “Serene Stampers” downline meeting.  I’m addicted to making these! LOL
You wouldn’t believe how easy these are to make.
The same technique, but this time I used blue, green and purple Water Color Wonder Crayons. The bird and branches are made in seconds, using our “Two-Step Bird” Extra-Large Punch.  I sponged Real Red and Early Espresso Classic Inks onto the bird to make a ‘Robin’.
Can you tell I’ve got ‘Spring’ on my mind?  Robins and flowers are my current theme…*smile*  The flowers are made with a punch that has retired but you could create the same look with either the “Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack” or the ‘Boho Blossoms’ punch.
I hope these cards have inspired you – all supplies are available through my online store.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you wish to join a stamp group and learn a new technique each month. We have a ball!
HAPPY STAMPING!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
