Hi Friends! For this month’s “Leader’s Project Sheet” tutorial, I created an easy birthday card with a classic versamark and “Soft Pastels” (chalk) technique. Using a combination of textured stamping, heat embossing, and layered details, this card features the beautiful Sketched Butterflies Bundle, paired with Textured Floral and Tune In stamp sets.

Here’s everything you need to recreate this card:
Supplies:
- Stamp Sets:
- Textured Floral Photopolymer Stamp Set (English) [161229]
- Sketched Butterflies Bundle (English) [163492]
- Tune In Bundle (English) [163637]
- Cardstock:
- Very Vanilla 8-1/2″ X 11″ Cardstock [101650]
- Basic Black 8-1/2″ X 11″ Cardstock [121045]
- Stamp Pads:
- Versamark Pad [102283]
- Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad [132708]
- Miscellaneous:
- Soft Pastels Assortment [154585]
- Basics Wow! Embossing Powder [165679]
- Heat Tool [129053]
- So Swirly Embossing Folder [163791]
- Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine [149653]
- Blender Pens [102845]
- Multipurpose Liquid Glue [110755]
- Stampin’ Dimensionals [104430]

Measurements:
- Basic Black Card Base: 8 ½” x 5 ½”; scored at 4 ¼”
- Very Vanilla Layer: 5 ¼” x 4”, plus a scrap piece for the butterfly
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Base
Fold the Basic Black cardstock in half to create your card base.
2. Stamp & Add Colour
Using Versamark ink, stamp a floral image from the Textured Floral set onto the Very Vanilla layer. Add a pop of colour by scribbling yellow and red chalk from the Soft Pastels Assortment over the stamped design. Blend the colours together with your fingers or a sponge dauber for a soft, beautiful effect.
3. Add the Leaves
Stamp leaf images with Versamark ink and repeat the chalk blending technique, this time using green tones.
4. Create the Sentiment Panel
Place a rectangular die from the Tune In Bundle over your stamped layer and run it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. Ink a sentiment with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then cover it with Versamark ink and sprinkle on Basics Wow! Embossing Powder. Heat set for a shiny, professional look. Set aside the sentiment panel.
5. Add Texture
Run the entire stamped layer through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the So Swirly Embossing Folder. Adhere this textured layer to the Basic Black card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
6. Emboss the Sentiment
Cover the sentiment panel with Versamark ink, add Clear Embossing Powder, and heat set with the Heat Tool. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the panel back onto the card, slightly offsetting it from its original die-cut position for a fun layered effect.
7. Colour & Layer the Butterfly
Stamp the butterfly image from the Sketched Butterflies Bundle onto Very Vanilla cardstock using Black Memento Ink. Create two identical butterflies. Use a Blender Pen to add colour with the Soft Pastels Assortment.
- Adhere the first butterfly to the card front, cover it with Clear Embossing Powder, and heat set. Die cut it using the coordinating die.
- Repeat the embossing and die-cut process for the second butterfly. Fold up the wings and adhere just the body over the first butterfly for a dimensional effect.
8. Finishing Touches
Add your choice of gems or embellishments to the card for a touch of sparkle and shine!
Here’s how I stamped the inside of the card:

This card combines so many of my favourite techniques: stamping, chalk blending, embossing, and layering. The textured background and dimensional butterfly make it stand out as a truly special card for any occasion.
I hope this project inspires you to get creative with your supplies! Creating this card has given me the idea to adapt the same design and techniques for a winter-themed or Christmas card, and I can’t wait to share it with you soon!

Take care & HAPPY STAMPING!
