Stamping Techniques with Pastel Chalks Part 2

June 28, 2021 Leave a Comment

Hi Friends! I hope you had a nice weekend! I spent Saturday out in the garden, weeding and planting the rest of my potatoes. It was HOT and muggy outside, but I’m so glad I got those spuds in the ground! It’s exciting to see all my veggies growing and getting big. My tomato & squash plants are starting to flower; the beans, peas, and corn are getting tall, and the radishes are ready to be picked. The carrots and beets need to be thinned out, so I should do that this morning, while it’s still cool – as we’re in for another super hot day today. We had a super fun evening on Saturday at a family BBQ celebrating a graduation. Tons of food (including lobster!), some yummy drinks, and lots of laughs. It’s so nice to do something that feels ‘normal’ again!

Time to get onto today’s cards! I have part two of my pastel chalk techniques ready to share with you!

Soft Pastel Assortment #154585 $12.25 CDN

If you haven’t seen part one of my Soft Pastels Assortment series, click HERE.

This time around, I’m sharing techniques using pastel chalks with our Decorative Masks (which I LOVE).

Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks #155553 $11.00 CDN

Stampin’ Up! also offers a second set of Decorative Masks – Basic Patterns – which are also fabulous designs! I will be using these stencils with my chalks soon and will share my cards and projects with you when I do.

In today’s video, I am demonstrating three different cards, and I also share a couple of other cards too. I hope you enjoy these fun techniques and give them a try too!

I used Versamark Ink over the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks and then applied the Soft Assortment Pastel Chalks with my Blending Brushes. I stamped the sentiment from the Biggest Wish Stamp Set, using my Stamparatus and Black Memento Ink. I stamped again with Versamark and embossed the sentiment using Clear Emboss Powder. Simple, but such a pretty card!

I made this card the same way as the “Happy Birthday” card, except I obviously used a different mask pattern and more purple and blue chalk (Gorgeous Grape and Coastal Cabana). The technique here was using the dies on the chalked background too, which I embossed in clear.

Love of Leaves stamp set and a bit of Gilded Leafing!

For this card, I ran my Basic White card stock through the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder and applied the chalks first without Versamark, to create a soft background. I then lightly added more Versamark and more chalks for more intense colour on the raised images. The versamark will dry, which is why I was able to continue layering it on to do something different to the card each time – like adding the Heat & Stick Powder and Gilded Leafing!
Honestly, the photos of this card do not do it justice – it is so pretty! For the seahorse, I cut Basic Black card stock using the GORGEOUS new Sea Life Dies and then covered the die cut with my Versamark ink and then applied the pastel chalks. I applied my Clear Wink of Stella pen over the entire seahorse and it really made the ‘chalks’ vibrant and so sparkly!

Stamp sets: Very Versailles and Butterfly Brilliance Bundle To create the background I applied the Soft Assortment Pastels with Blending Brushes over the mask – no Versamark. This creates a very soft background that I think is so romantic and lovely.
I embossed the butterfly in gold and applied the pastel chalk with my Blender Pen and then added a touch of Clear Wink of Stella.

I have yet another video with even MORE pastel chalk techniques coming to you later this week! I’ll be sharing gift items that you can make using our Soft Assortment Pastel Chalks and stamp sets!

I have exciting news to share with you!

Over the weekend I earned the “Western Caribbean Cruise” Stampin’ Up incentive trip, which takes place in May 2022! Every year I work super hard to earn these trips from Stampin’ Up! but it’s so worth it. These trips are not possible without loyal customers and an incredible team and I’m beyond blessed to have both. Thank you from the bottom of my heart – I am incredibly grateful! Much love and hugs to you all!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
