Stamping Techniques Using Pastel Chalks

June 20, 2021 2 Comments

Hi Friends! I am so HAPPY that Stampin’ Up! has brought back Pastel Chalks to our product line! Years ago we sold “Stampin’ Pastels” and when they retired I was super sad – I LOVED using these chalks! When Stampin’ Up! released our new 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue last month, I immediately purchased our new “Soft Assortments Pastels” and couldn’t wait to play with them!

Soft Pastels Assortment #154585 $12.25

Eight chalk pastels in Stampin’ Up! colours: Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Mango Melody, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, Poppy Parade

Today I am going to show you some basic ways that you can combine pastel chalks with stamping; using our Blender Pens, Sponge Daubers, Q-Tips and with our Versamark Ink Pad (for the Poppin’ Pastels technique).

There are MANY others ways we can use pastel chalks and I’ll be sharing those with you soon with a couple more video demonstrations (including my ALL-TIME VERY FAVOURITE TECHNIQUE!).

Our Soft Assortment Pastels are ideal for those who are new to stamping because they’re quick and easy to use with limited supplies and they’re also great for ALL stampers because of their versatility and different techniques.

Here is part one of my Soft Pastels Assortment series, featuring three basic techniques:

Free as a Bird stamp set. stamped with Black Memento, coloured with Blender Pens & Soft Pastels Assortment.
The card base is Gorgeous Grape card stock. I’m smitten with our new Artistry Blooms Adhesive-Backed Sequins and have been using them on EVERYTHING! Just a few on this card really finished it off nicely!
Free as a Bird stamp set. stamped with Black Memento, coloured with Q-Tips & Soft Pastels Assortment. I also used a 2″ x 4″ strip of Pattern Party Designer Series Paper (scored and folded 1/2″) and our White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon. Card base is Gorgeous Grape.
Art Gallery stamp set. stamped with Versamark ink pad, coloured with Sponge Daubers & Soft Pastels Assortment. This is called the “Poppin Pastels” technique. Card base is Granny Apply Green.
The beautiful sentiment is from the “Sunny Sentiments” stamp set. As shown in my video, I scrape a thin dusting of pastel chalk with our Take Your Pick Tool onto our Silicone Craft Sheet. This makes it super quick and convenient for using chalk in bigger areas and for techniques such as “Poppin’ Pastels”.
Art Gallery stamp set. stamped with Versamark ink pad, coloured with Sponge Daubers & Soft Pastels Assortment. The flower was cut using the Floral Gallery Dies. I also used some gold trim and one of our adorable Bumblebee Trinkets!
The tutorial for this card layout, along with other samples, can be found on my previous blog post HERE.
Color & Contour stamp set. stamped with Versamark ink pad, coloured with Sponge Daubers & Soft Pastels Assortment. The detailed line image was stamped with Black Memento ink.
The sentiment is from the “Ornate Thanks” stamp set and stamped with Polished Pink ink. The butterfly die is from “Meadow” dies and cut from 2021-2023 In Colour Shimmer Vellum. I added Clear Wink of Stella to the flowers and used our Note Cards and Envelopes.
Butterfly Brilliance stamp set. stamped with Versamark ink pad, coloured with Sponge Daubers & Soft Pastels Assortment. The card base is Poppy Parade and I also added some Rhinestones to the butterflies.
Sentiment is from “Inspired Thoughts” stamp set

I hope you enjoyed today’s cards and demonstration! Part two of my pastel chalks techniques will be coming soon!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
