Poppin’ Pastels

September 26, 2010 Leave a Comment

Hi there! Just a quick posting today – my mother in law is visiting from England and between our visits and my full calendar, there’s just not been enough hours in a day! We’ve been having a lovely time though and I know that her two week visit is going to go fast. It’s been so nice having some family visit – sometimes it’s hard being away from our loved ones. My family lives in British Columbia and in the USA and Russell’s, of course, live in the UK. So to have his Mom here has been a treat. Aside from that, I’ve been having so much fun at my workshops! June had a super great workshop in St. Stephen a few weeks ago and that’s where I met Brenda – yesterday’s hostess! Brenda lives in Sussex and it was so nice to spend some time with her and her wonderful friends. Brenda and her friends are avid scrapbookers and meet quite often so I demonstrated a 12×12 page, along with some cards and gift items. Of course, the Big Shot came with me! I’ll post photos of the projects we made in the next coming days.

Here’s a little tutorial for you; it’s called ‘Poppin’ Pastels’. This is another fun way to use your Stampin’ Pastels (chalks) and Versamark ink pad. If you haven’t tried this technique, give it a whirl. You’ll love it. Trust me. FYI – this technique, shown using the Crumb Cake cardstock, also works well on all other colors of cardstock, including Whisper White. I also made this into a ‘One Sheet Wonder’. Put simply, a OSW is where you cover an entire sheet of cardstock with your art work – be it with your stampin’ wheels, stamps and ink, or a stampin’ technique – and simply cut it up to be used in multiple pieces. You can get a lot of cards and projects out of the one piece of paper – thus saving you time. If you look back to my posting last year – I believe it was in the winter/spring months – the project I demonstrated at the Family Resource Centre was a OSW card and card holder set that was a big hit. Ok – on to the tutorial.

Using the versamark ink pad, randomly stamp your image on the page. Only do about a third of the page at a time, otherwise the versamark ink will dry and the chalk won’t stick to it.

Using a sponge, as I here, or daubers (which I prefer but couldn’t find them! LOL), pounce on some color, using your Stampin’ Pastels. Since I’m going for an autumn look, and using a leave image from the ‘Lovely as a Tree’ set, I’m using a few colors (orange, red, yellow, green and purple).
Lookin’ purdy!

I’ve now covered the whole piece of cardstock.

I don’t always add words, but for this project I was feeling wild and crazy. So I grabbed my Basic Black ink pad and kept on stampin’.

How many of us are hooked on THIS gadget? The ‘Color Spritzer’ is awesome. Something so simple, as a light speckling of color, can change the entire look of your project. As the ‘Pioneer Woman’, the wonderful Ree Drumond, would say: ‘It’ll make your skirt fly up!’

“Spritz, spritz Baby!”

(and yes, that’s a Stampin’ Up! jewel on my nail. I couldn’t resist. Nor can my nail customers – we’re all wearing some SU bling on our nails! LOL! Love it!)

Put your card together and VOILA! Just a heads up – while I know I’ve been featuring this truck from the ‘Countryside’ stamp set in a lot of my blog postings – I have to tell ya, there’s going to be a lot more. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!!!!!! It makes me happy! This is my dream truck. My Grandpa Erickson had a truck like this when I was a kid, and it was green. I loved it. One day, after Russell gets his dream ’69 Dodge Charger (Dukes of Hazzard), I’ll get my (Chevy) truck.

Until next time, HAPPY STAMPING!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
