Hi! I can’t believe we’re almost into the second week of August already. It’s crazy how fast time is going! I’ve finally had some time to relax and decompress after all the business of packing, cleaning and moving – and then unpacking at my new home and getting settled in. All is going really well though and I have even taken some time to go fishing.
I absolutely love fishing – though I’m not used to casting from a shore
for trout – I’ve always been in a boat. I grew up mostly trolling for
salmon and jigging for cod (and some fresh water fishing too). It’s a whole new ball game for me now to cast my line as far as I can
on the lake and hope to wake up some hungry trout. However, aside from
four small fish that were released back into the water, I’ve mostly
caught grass from the bottom of the lake! No matter, it’s just awesome to be out in nature, enjoying total peace and quiet. I’m a morning person (for some reason I tend to wake up at 5:30am every day) so it’s easy for me to get up and be at the lake first thing in the morning. If I could go every morning I would – it’s just the best, watching and listening to the loons, sometimes coyotes howling from a distance, feeling the morning sun on my skin as it breaks through the clouds, and enjoying good coffee. I’m truly blessed to live in such a gorgeous place where I can enjoy nature like this.
OK – let’s get onto today’s card. I actually made this one a couple of weeks ago, so I can’t recall all the ink colours that I used. But I can tell you how I made it.
- To make the watercolour background I tapped blue and green ink pads onto a piece of window sheet. Then I spritzed the ink with water until it blended in together a little bit and pressed it onto whisper white card stock and set aside to dry. Once dry I adhered this an Old Olive card base.
- I stamped the expression from the “Me = Grateful” stamp set using Versamark ink and embossed in silver. I used my markers to colour in the letters.
- The hummingbird is from the “Picture Perfect” stamp set – oh my gosh, this is such a gorgeous set. But I’ll be honest, the hummingbird image (which has 4 stamps layered ontop of each other) is a wee bit tricky to use. But once you practise with it and get the hang of it it becomes easier. I stamped the hummingbird twice – once on the whisper white layer and another so that I could cut out a wing and the tail, which I attached to the main image with glue dots and a tiny bit of a dimensional.
- A few sequins and bakers twine (and some dazzling diamonds glitter) finished the card!

It was a lot of fun to make this card and I’ll do a video for you featuring the water colour background. I had actually meant to make a video last week but didn’t get to it – so I promise I’ll make one asap. Today I’m going to tackle organizing my stamp studio – it’s still a work in progress as I continue to unpack and set it all up. I realized I needed more shelving so I picked up a great bookshelf a couple of days ago, so I’m going to put on some tunes, make a tea and get at it!
