“Painted Glass” Card in a Snap & How to Step it Up

February 4, 2019 Leave a Comment

Hi Friends! I hope you had a nice weekend! Yesterday was my ‘Serene Stampers’ monthly gathering, “Stamp n’ Share”, which is held online (via our Facebook group and Zoom). We always have lots of fun together, sharing ideas, business tips Q&A, prize patrol, etc. Following our Stamp n’ Share we get together for our “Mystery Stamping Hour”. We all LOVE this! I have team members spread across Canada and this is a great way we can all stamp together, no matter where we live! We ‘meet up’ on the events page of our FB group and I give steps to make a card. Everyone receives the same steps for the card layout and then post photos of our finished cards. It’s awesome because everyone has different colours, stamps, etc and we end up with lots of ideas and inspiration. We also have fun and laughs during our stamping hour. I love the time we spend together. The layout for yesterday’s “Mystery Stamping Card” came from an Inspiration Sheet that Stampin’ Up! used to offer (way back in 2006)…

Using the same layout as the ‘Apricot Appeal’ card (remember that colour?), here is the card I made:
This card was easy peasy and quick to make. The colour coordination with Stampin’ Up!’s products is the ‘magic key’ to making simple cards amazing. As you can see from the photo above, I used three colours for the card stock: Night of Navy, Lemon Lime Twist and Coastal Cabana. I then pulled each of those colours into the stamped images with my inks….

Simple, but pretty, right? I also used the “Itty Bitty Greetings” stamp set – every single sentiment fits on the little strip of card stock on this card layout! So you can imagine all the cards you could make using this one layout and “Itty Bitty” stamp set – just changing the colours and the focal image!

I love starting my day off with my coffee and stamping, so this morning I made another card, using the same layout and a few additional products to step it up:

I ran the Night of Navy card base through my Big Shot with the Tin Tile Embossing folder and then added a bit of white ink with a sponge. Instead of going ‘tone on tone’ with the roses on the Lemon Lime Twist strip of card stock, I embossed them in white & ‘coloured’ them with my Clear Wink of Stella pen. I stamped and die cut two butterflies (instead of just using one of the ‘in a snap’ card) and adhered this layer to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I also added some Night of Navy twine and a couple of pearls…
Whether a card is made in a snap or if it’s stepped-up, it’s beautiful both ways and regardless if you spent five minutes or if you spent fifty minutes making a card – it will surely make someone’s day to receive it!

Measurements:
  • Night of Navy – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
  • Lemon Lime Twist – 1 3/8″ x 5 1/2″ & 1/2″ x 1 7/8″ (for sentiment)
  • Coastal Cabana – 2 18″ x 2 1/2″
  • Whisper White – 1 7/8″ x 2 1/4″
Instructions:
  1. Fold Night of Navy card stock in half to create card base. For stepped up version: run front layer of card through the Big Shot using Tin Tile Embossing Folder. Light swipe White Craft ink over front of card using a sponge.
  2. Stamp flower image on Lemon Lime Twist card stock using Lemon Lime Twist ink. For stepped up version: rub embossing buddy over card stock, stamp image with Versamark and emboss with white powder. Go over flowers with Clear Wink of Stella Pen.
  3. Glue Lemon Lime Twist layer to left side of card.
  4. Stamp background image onto Whisper White card stock with Lemon Lime Twist ink and glue to Coastal Cabana layer. Place on front of card with Stampin’ Dimesionals. For stepped up version: wrap Night of Navy around bottom of Whisper White layer and use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere to Coastal Cabana cardstock.
  5. Stamp sentiment on the Lemon Lime Twist strip of card stock using Night of Navy ink pad. Glue to Whisper White layer. For stepped up version: add a pearl on each side of sentiment.
  6. Stamp butterfly and cut with coordinating die on Big Shot. Pull in colours using ink pads and blender pen. Glue to front of card and place a rhinestone on butterfly. For stepped up version: stamp and cut two butterflies and stack them together, bending wings.

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
