Fall Fair Update & Chocolate Slider Tutorial!

September 18, 2010 Leave a Comment

Hi Everyone! Well, I have been having a wonderful time, demonstrating Stampin’ Up!, at the Queen’s County Fair! Here’s a photo me, getting setting up, on my first night:

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a nice black tablecloth, but once all set up, my display really did look nice and I received lots of great comments. The blank spots on my card display boards quickly filled up with the cards I made during my demonstrations.

My husband took this photo, of a crowd starting to gather. There were times when there would be so many folks watching others would have to wait and come back to see what I was demonstrating. In other words, Stampin’ Up! was captivating MANY good folks who were in the area! Woo hoo! A lot of people had never seen rubber stamping before and it was soooo neat to watch them get excited and have fun with it! My make and takes were little Christmas tags, using the new Tags til Christmas set and the coordinating Decorative Label punch.

By the way – guess who is bringing home a FIRST PLACE & BEST OF SHOW ribbon? The hubby! Yes sir! Russell submitted his photo collection of classic vehicles that have been retired to mother nature, where they now ‘Rust in Peace’. They’re terrific pictures and I keep suggesting that he publish a coffee table book with all his photos. Maybe one day. In the meantime, he’s pretty pleased with himself and as always, I’m super proud of my man!
Be sure to check out his album if you go to the fair this weekend!

OK, back to STAMPING! One of the items I’ve got on display at the fair has become pretty popular and it’s SO EASY to make!!!!

Sometimes it’s the simple things that bring the biggest ‘wow’. So here’s a tutorial on how I make these super cute ‘Chocolate Sliders’:

I’m not big on measuring – unless I have to. So the first thing I do is wrap my Designer Series Paper around the chocolate bar – as if you’re wrapping a present. Don’t make it too tight though – there has to be enough ‘give’ for the chocolate bar to slide up and down.

Leave some room at the bottom of the paper for crimping and the top of the paper should be flush with the top of the bar. (Ignore the camera cord…LOL)

Once your paper is cut to size, take your snail adhesive and adhere the middle and bottom seams together.

Next, put the bottom of your wrapper into the crimper and give it a few turns. If you don’t have a crimper (you’re going to want one – there’s so much you can do with it!) just cut the excess off of the bottom.

To add the ribbon, punch on the top part of your wrapper, down about 1/2 an inch.

To measure the amount of ribbon I need, I wrap it around the chocolate bar, leaving enough of a tail to tie a knot or a bow.

Pull your ribbon from the front of your wrapper, through to the back.

Take your chocolate bar and slide it into the wrapper, pushing the ribbon down to the bottom at the same time.

This is what makes the ‘magic’ happen when you pull the chocolate bar up and down!

Tie a knot, or bow, at the top.

Now you need a gift tag!

This is my make and take during the fair! Stamp the tag in Early Espresso Classic Ink, then, using the Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler Markers, add some colour to the pine bough and words.

I love the new Decorative Label punch!!!!

Cut a bit of twine to tie the tag on to your bow on the Chocolate Slider.

And VOILA!

This is way more fun than just giving someone a plain ole’chocolate bar! Dress it up and make it memorable!

I also made a ton of corner bookmarks to give away, with my business information.

I used the ‘Be Happy’ stamp that is part of an incentive stamp set available only to demonstrators, that we can use for give aways, door prizes, etc.

I used the In Color Designer Series paper pack, that is a FREE Hostess Level I item that YOU can receive just for having a workshop!

This is how the book marks work. I love them. Super fun & easy to make. I can show you how, with another tutorial, later this week.

My package all put together and ready to hand out! Everyone loved them!

The back of my info package, complete with a chocolate!

HAPPY STAMPING!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…
