Hi Friends! I had promised to share some photos of my time at the last Canadian Conference this past weekend, which was in Newfoundland. I was flown in to help Dale Hampshire (our manager who came all the way from Calgary) with the set up and running of the event, only to discover upon my arrival that NONE of our supplies had arrived from Calgary! *EGADS!* At first I thought Dale must be joking, but he wasn’t. The courier company had guaranteed the delivery of our supplies (which included all the make and takes, prizes, etc) by the end of the day on Thursday. It was now Friday afternoon and we discovered the boxes weren’t even in Newfoundland but in New Brunswick and wouldn’t arrive until Tuesday! Holey carumba! We had our first event scheduled that evening with the rest happening the following day on Saturday!
We also had a surprise guest: Pam Morgan, our VP of Demonstrator and Employee Support at Stampin’ Up!, had also travelled quite a distance, coming from Utah, to be at this event. Kay Smith, my dear friend and fellow demonstrator, had been enjoying lunch with Pam with they received the email Dale sent out that the entire conference (with the exception of the business session) had to be cancelled! By the time Kay and Pam joined Dale and I at the hotel lobby we were all in full force as to how to salvage the event. We put our thinking hats on and decided to have some demonstrations after Dale’s business session Saturday morning, and then have some simple make and takes. As I’ve been making a lot of ornaments lately, they were fresh on my mind so I suggested we make the Rosette ornaments (see video on how to make these HERE), as well as an altered clothespin ornament embellished with our Spiral Flower Die. Fortunately, Kay not only has the most amazing craft room I’ve ever seen, she also has a TON of supplies – if not for her we’d have NO make and takes at all! So another email was sent out that we were making Lemonade out of Lemons and will carry on with demonstrations and stamping on Saturday afternoon. Then Pam and I went with Kay back to her house and we spent the evening cutting and assembling the supplies required for the make and takes! Kay’s sweet husband made us a delicious dinner of cod and while we were busy and tired, we sure had a nice night visiting with one another.
Approx 40 demonstrators attended both the morning business session as well as the stamping in the afternoon and I’m here to tell ya, it was a FABULOUS event! Everyone’s attitudes were upbeat and positive and while there was of course some disappointment that conference was cancelled, they understood that it was out of our control and were grateful just to get together! Dale’s business presentation was absolutely excellent – capped off with gourmet chocolate cupcakes – and the afternoon gathering was delightful.
We had fun, we mingled, we created and we enjoyed each other’s company. That is always the bottom line of what Stampin’ Up! is all about. “Inspire. Create. Share.” And we did just that. It was awesome. On top of it all, I just loved meeting the demonstrators in Newfoundland – I made new friends – and I can’t wait to go back!
