Hi friends! The other day I took a little time for myself and spent a wonderful afternoon creating. I pulled out some papers, card bases, doilies, lace, and a few other treasures from my stash, then simply started playing – without any real plan for what I was going to make (as I tend to do).
That’s one of the things I love most about creating. Even when I begin with the same collection of papers and embellishments, every project ends up with a personality all its own.

For these projects, I used pieces from my July Companion Kit, along with elements from a few past Companion Kits and supplies from my own stash. I love how beautifully everything mixes and matches, making it easy to create cards, journals, altered projects, and so much more.

The Companion Kits are included at no extra cost and are exclusively available to Serene Post members.

I’ve designed everything to coordinate with the theme of each month’s Serene Post, making it easy to mix papers, ephemera and sentiments as your creativity unfolds.

Whether you’re a cardmaker, journaler, scrapbooker, or simply enjoy playing with paper, I hope these digital downloads spark a few ideas of your own.
If you’re new to The Serene Post, it’s my monthly happy mail membership created for those who love creativity, slow living, and the simple joy of receiving something special in the mailbox.
Each month, members receive a heartfelt letter from Nova Scotia, seasonal artwork, recipes, and an exclusive Companion Kit filled with coordinating printable papers, ephemera, sentiments, creative videos, and inspiration to enjoy long after the envelope arrives.
Registration for the August Serene Post is now open until July 25 (or while spaces remain). I’d love to welcome you into our growing community.

Here are a few of the projects I created using this month’s collection:
Cottage Favourites Card

I wanted this card to feel soft and timeless. Layering the floral artwork over patterned paper, then adding the butterfly and a few pearls, gave it the feeling of an old-fashioned botanical journal page. The background paper is from the $1 store and I pulled in some embellishments that I had in my stash (pre-stamped and cut butterfly and irrediscent gems). I believe the white and gold twine may be from a Paper Pumpkin kit.

Summer Evenings Card

This card captures everything I love about a Nova Scotia summer evening—a cozy blanket, a crackling campfire, good company, and of course, my sweet Cooper relaxing nearby. These images are from my July Companion Kit, which was inspired by this month’s Serene Post theme, Summer Evenings at Home.
I happened to have a card base with a strip of Designer Series Paper already glued across the middle, so I decided to build on it! I added part of a paper doily, layered everything onto Crumb Cake cardstock, and finished it with one of the free sentiments from my newsletter collection. (If you haven’t subscribed to my newsletter yet, be sure to click HERE to receive your free sentiment collection!)

I think this card turned out super-duper adorable… but then again, that’s pretty much guaranteed when my little muppet is stealing the show! LOL
Morning Coffee & Birdsong Card

This card was inspired by peaceful mornings on the porch with a warm cup of coffee while listening to the birds. It’s a gentle reminder to slow down and savour those quiet moments before the day begins. I actually made this card for a friend of mine, who I know loves to sit on her front veranda whilst enjoying her coffee!

I couldn’t resist adding a wee bit of lace behind the coffee cup and blanket for a bit of texture. Oh, and I also had to put on a bit of glossy accents for the water in the bird bath. Oh my goodness, it’s amazing how little details like these can make such a difference to a card or project!
Altered Mini Notebook

Sometimes the simplest projects are the most useful. I needed a little notebook to keep in my purse (it’s always handing to have a pen and paper when you need it as you’re out and about, right?). A few years ago I found these wonderful little notebooks in our local dollarstore and grabbed a couple. I wish I had bought a few more as I’ve not seen them since! Anywho, I covered this little notebook with papers and ephemera from the Companion Kits so I can tuck it into my purse for shopping lists, notes, or little reminders throughout the day.

I hope these projects have inspired you to take another look at the supplies you already have and simply enjoy the creative process. It’s amazing what can happen when you mix a few favourite papers, embellishments, and a little imagination.
