Hi Friends! Can I just tell ya, as much as I detest cold weather, I’d almost take it over the HOT temps we’ve been having this past week:
Yep. In the shade, my friends…40′ in the shade! The only thing cute about this is the hedgehog on the thermometer. 😉 Actually, this thermometer holds a lot of sentimental value for me. I gave it to my mom years ago because she collected Hedgehog Hollow figurines. After she passed away, it’s one of the things I kept.
I really hope we don’t have too many more days with these high temps, though. It’s especially tough on my ole girl, Rosey.
Our air conditioning unit and fans have been going steady, plus I’ve put sheets on the windows to keep the rooms dark (it does seem to help with keeping things cool).
In the early morning, before it gets too hot and muggy, I’ve been taking Rosey and Cooper to either the beach or the river for quick dips in the water.
I’ve also got a kiddy pool set up for the hounds in our yard, and they’ve been getting cool showers and cold wet cloths on their heads and bodies. I’m not taking any chances, especially with Rosey’s health issues. Let me just tell ya, these doggies of mine seem pretty dang content with the A-class treatment, as are the cats!
Speaking of the felines, they’ve either been sleeping on the beds, in their baskets, or on the old antique school desk in the sunroom – all spots directly in front of a fan!
It’s MUCH cooler downstairs, so sometimes Romeo and Forest spend their days down there. Rocky, of course, stays with me as my official ‘shadow’.
Aside from the heat, we’ve been enjoying some family gatherings, gardening and bonfires in our yard with our friends and neighbors…
…and of course, nothing says “Summer in Nova Scotia” without a few delicious lobster dinners, which we’ve been enjoying, all thanks to my sister and brother-in-law. They fish for lobster every year before their busy “Giant Bluefin Tuna Charter” season kicks off in the summer and fall. I’ll be catering for all their guests again this year – I think this will be my 7th year doing this! I absolutely love making delicious meals for their charters. Nothing beats catching a 600-800lb+ tuna followed by a bowl of my seafood chowder (or lasagna, or Cornish pasties, or whatever else the guests choose from our menu). Just sayin’.
I made lobster rolls last night, and today I whipped up a lobster quiche with some of the leftovers we had frozen – oh my Lord, scrumptious! I even baked some Maple Walnut Muffins this morning, which I haven’t made in years.
I tell ya, with all the stampin’, cookin’, bakin’, beach trips with the hounds, bonfires, and everything else…life is pretty good. We just need to count our blessings and appreciate every moment!
Alrighty, I think you’re pretty much up to date with what’s been happening in my life lately! LOL Now, let’s move on to the card tutorial, which is probably what you’re more interested in….
I created this card for this month’s “Leader’s Project Sheet Group,” and it was so much fun to make! I hadn’t stamped for over a WEEK (whaattt??), so I was experiencing some serious withdrawals, my friends. It was truly delightful to get back to playing with my inks, stamps, and papers!
Measurements:
- Petunia Pop: 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” , scrap for sentiment
- Basic White: 4 ¼” x 3”
- Shy Shamrock: 4” x 5 ¼/
- Pretty in Pink: 2 ½ “ x 4 ¼”, 4” x 5 ¼”
- Blackberry Bliss: 2 ¾ “ x 4 ½”
Instructions:
- Fold Petunia Pop card stock in half to create card base.
- Glue Shy Shamrock layer to card.
- Ink butterfly with Pretty in Pink and stamp over 4” x 5 ¼” Pretty in Pink card stock. Cut with Perennial Postage die and glue to card front.
- Cut Basic White card stock with punch (or dies) to create three pieces.
- Stamp each punch/die with leaves inked with Shy Shamrock.
- Ink flowers first with Pretty in Pink. Next, use Petunia Pop marker around the centre of flowers, followed with Blackberry Bliss in the centres. Stamp onto the label pieces. Glue each to the Pretty in Pink card stock. Glue onto Blackberry Bliss layer.
- Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere Blackberry Bliss layers to front stamped Pretty in Pink piece.
- Wrap ribbon around stamped card stock and glue to card base.
- Stamp sentiment with Blackberry Bliss ink onto scrap piece of Petunia Pop card stock. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere to card.
- Add ribbon bow to finish
I’ll be filming a new video for you tomorrow, featuring the “Sketched Butterflies” stamp set (my current favorite) and some dry embossing techniques! These are going to be fun ideas for you to try out over the weekend! I just remembered I have a mammogram first thing in the morning (fun…not), but I’ll do my best to have my video filmed, edited and posted for you by tomorrow evening. Until then…
