Christmas Card Holder & Scrapbook

December 30, 2022 3 Comments

Hi Friends! I hope you had a nice Christmas! Ours was lovely and we enjoyed celebrating the holiday with friends and family. After all the hustle and bustle though, I was looking forward to some relaxing crafting time.

I wanted to come up with a way to store our Christmas cards. After looking online for ideas, I decided I wanted to make a book and add some photos and journal some of our memories too. I am really pleased with our my Christmas Card Holder turned out! It was super easy to put together and SUPER fun too.

To make my book, I used the Christmas patterns from “Celebrate Everything” 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper (free host reward) and the “Santa Express Memories & More Pack”. The cute stamp set I used on my Christmas card is “Family & Friends”, from the current holiday mini catalogue. These items are only available until January 4th, so be sure to get them ASAP if they’re on your wish/want/gotta have list!

I cut two pieces of chipboard (from our 12″ x 12″ DSP packs) to measure 6″ x 8″. I glued the same size DSP to the front and back of the chipboard. The inside pages are simply 6″ x 12″ Designer Series Papers, folded in half (6″ x 6 “) & glued together. Next, I adhered the front and back covers to the front and back 6″ x 6” page.

I forgot to mention, I was ‘wingin’ this project and created as I went along. When I originally cut the DSP strip to make the spine for the book, I made it too big. To fix this, I simply recut my paper to measure 8″ x 5 3/4″, scoring at the 3/4″ mark down the length & glued the flaps to the book. I covered the original scoreline with some black gingham ribbon (I’m sneaky that way). A punched label covered the spot where the ribbon ends met.

To decorate the front of my book I glued on one of the Christmas cards I mass-produced for our friends and family this year…

These are the products that I used to create our 2022 Christmas card:

I also added a strip of lace ribbon (retired) and some bits & pieces that I cut from the “Santa Express Memories & More” cards.

Along with our Christmas cards (which I glued inside the book), I also add some photos from Christmas as well as some journaling. This made the finished book really big and thick, but I accounted for that, which is why I made the spine wider. You’ll see in the video though that I cut my spine paper down 2 1/2″, as it was a bit too big. This is the beauty of just ‘going with the flow’ when you’re creating, and NOT worrying about ‘perfection’. Just do what makes you happy and enjoy the process – I know I sure did!

The ribbon that I used to keep my card holder closed is currently on our clearance rack. It’s an awesome ribbon so that’s something you may want to snap up while it’s still available (see the below supply list).

I hope my project gives you some ideas and inspiration to make a book to hold & store your special cards too!

I joined Stampin' Up! the first night they arrived in Canada, April 2002, and what a ride it's been! At the time I just wanted the discount on all of the fabulous stamps and accessories - why pay full price if you don't have to, right? But little did I know where my journey with Stampin' Up! would take me. Read More…

You’ll never believe this. I decided yesterday that I wanted to have some sort of album to keep homemade cards in from my friends. I came out of a thrift store disappointed because I didn’t find something. The timing of your project is so perfect. I’m anxious to make one–or two.
