Hi Friends! July 1st is Canada Day and I wanted to make a special card to celebrate! This was one of those ‘let’s play and see what happens’ kinda of cards, as I had no specific layout or design planned – it just evolved on it’s own and I love how it turned out!
To start, I did some emboss-resisting. Using the maple leaf from the “Vintage Leaves” stamp set, ink with versamark and stamp over a piece of glossy card stock. Sprinkle with white embossing powder, shake off the excess and set with heat tool. Then I used the ‘polished stone’ technique to add some ink over the embossed leaves.
If
you’ve never tried the Polished Stone technique you’ve got to give it a whirl – and it’s really easy. Glossy card stock is the key component for this
(so glad Stampin’ Up! is once again offering this product!). Grab a
cotton ball, randomly add a couple drops of re-inkers (I used three
drops of Real Red and also of Smoky Slate). Then saturate the cotton
with rubbing alcohol. Dab onto the glossy card stock until you’ve got
the look you’re going for. Let dry. Wipe the excess ink from the embossed leaves.
The third technique was the leaf embellishment which uses our new embossing paste. I cut a leaf out of a piece of card board (I actually used the packaging from our new Planner – nothing goes to waste in my stampin’ studio! LOL). I used the “Leaflets” framelits with the magnetic platform and the card board cut out perfectly. Then I placed a good dab of embossing paste onto my silicone mat, added two drops of Real Red re-inker and mixed well. Once the paste and ink was thoroughly combined I used my palette knife to cover the entire leaf. Then I just used the tip of the palette knife to add in the ‘veins’ of the leaf and set it aside to dry.
So those were the three technique I used, the rest was just a matter of putting the card together. The Gold Glitter card stock cut with the maple leaf from the Seasonal Layers thinlets added just the right touch to the card, with an clear faceted gem and a linen thread bow. I adhered the leaf embellishment with some stampin’ dimensionals. The Labeler Alphabet stamp set is so awesome because I can use it to create any sentiment I want and need, such as the “Oh Canada – Strong and Free”. Of course, you can stamp any sentiment, change the colours and use this card layout for any occasion and season.

WoW!!! I love this card, and all the different techniques you've done with it. I really appreciate your cards, as they have 'teeth' to them and are not the run-of-the-mill cards.
