Country Livin’

August 8, 2016 Leave a Comment

Hi Friends! Today’s card is one I made this weekend for a friend of mine. We both play guitar so I knew I had to use the “Country Livin'” stamp set for his birthday card. I have many fond memories of the two of us getting together and just strumming and singing away for the pure fun of it. One the reasons I enjoy making cards so much is you can’t help but think about the person you’re giving the card to, and reminiscing.

Now, you have to excuse the poor quality of the photos – I’m actually pressed for time today and am getting ready to head out the door. But I think you’ll still get the idea of what I did to make this card:

First, I inked the guitar image from the “Country Livin'” set with Early Espresso ink onto my Whisper White cardstock and then cut it out using my paper snips. This is an idea I cased from a card done by Dawn Griffith, who used the Leaflits Framelits (which would be much easier than using scissors). Then I set my cut guitar piece aside and I stamped the Hardwood stamp onto my whisper white card stock layer, using Soft Suede, and then ran it through my Big Shot using the Woodgrain embossing folder. Next I lightly sponged the woodgrain embossed image using Chocolate Chip ink.  I sponged the edges, including the cut out guitar area, using  Early Espresso Ink and adhered it to my yellow cardstock, then to the Pumpkin Pie card base.

To colour the guitar I sponged on Daffodil Delight, then Pumpkin Pie and a little Rich Razzleberry along the top.  I also added a little design to the guitar using “Timeless Textures” stamps and Crumb Cake ink. I then glued the guitar inside the top whisper white layer. A little “Wink of Stella” really brought the guitar to life!  To finish the card I added a “Happy Birthday” banner from the “Sprinkles of Life” set and a little bit of Burlap Ribbon and Linen Thread.

I hope you like today’s card. I can’t wait to play some more with the “Country Livin'” set – it’s going to be great for all the masculine cards that can sometimes be a challenge.
